Accusations and Secrets

Before Rosie could process Diana's emotional words, the restaurant manager, Mr. Harrison, stepped aggressively between them. His eyes sneered at the young waitress, his lip curling in disgust as he looked down at the shattered glass on the floor.

"Mrs. Vance, please do not let this clumsy girl manipulate you," Mr. Harrison said, his voice dripping with condescension. "She is a foster child from the rough side of town. There is absolutely no way a girl like her could afford a genuine diamond heirloom."

Harrison grabbed Rosie roughly by the arm, pulling her up from the floor. Rosie winced, crying out as she tried to pull away from his harsh grip.

"I am calling hotel security, and then the police," Harrison declared, pulling out his phone. "You are going to jail for grand theft, young lady."
"No! Please!" Rosie sobbed, her voice breaking with desperate panic. "I didn't steal it! I swear! I was left at Saint Jude's Orphanage when I was only three years old, and this necklace was the only thing I had with me! It is the only connection I have to my real mother!"

Hearing those words, a cold shock ran through Diana's veins. An orphanage at three years old. It aligned perfectly with the timeline of her daughter's disappearance. Diana stepped forward, her eyes flashing with a fierce, protective anger.

"Take your hands off her immediately, Mr. Harrison," Diana commanded, her voice cold and absolute.

The manager blinked in surprise, slowly releasing Rosie's arm but keeping a hostile stance. Diana turned to the crying girl, her heart pounding with a mixture of hope and terror.

"Rosie, please," Diana whispered. "Let me look at the back of the snowflake pendant. I designed the original piece myself, and there is a secret engraving on the back that only the true creator would know."

With trembling fingers, Rosie unclasped the necklace and handed it over, her eyes filled with desperate hope.
