Elena instinctively clutched the silver pendant, trying to shield it from David's intense gaze. It wasn't a standard pendant; it was a silver wedding band threaded through a delicate chain, engraved with a date that had been etched into her heart for over three decades.

"Please don't," Elena pleaded softly, stepping back. "I was just leaving."
