Previously: When groom Arthur accused seven-year-old Alice of stealing his wedding ring and shoved her, her mother Evelyn didn't back down. The ballroom's security cameras were about to expose a far darker truth.

The Truth in the Shadows

The ballroom fell into a suffocating silence as the implication of Evelyn's words hung in the air. Arthur’s mother, Eleanor, quickly stepped forward, her voice sharp. "Don't be ridiculous, Evelyn. My son is a respected businessman. He wouldn't lie about a child stealing a priceless family heirloom."

"She is not a thief, and your son just put his hands on her!" Evelyn spat back, her hand gently pressing a clean handkerchief to Alice’s forehead to stop the bleeding.

Just then, the heavy double doors opened, and Beatrice, Evelyn’s younger sister and the bride-to-be, stepped into the room. Her stunning white gown trailed behind her, but her face fell into instant horror when she saw her bleeding niece and the tense standoff.

"What is going on here? Why is Alice hurt?" Beatrice gasped, rushing to her niece's side.

Arthur immediately softened his tone, trying to play the protective partner.

"Darling, the little girl stole your grandmother’s heirloom ring. When I confronted her, she tripped and hit her head on the table. It was an accident, I swear."

"He pushed me, Auntie Beatrice!" Alice sobbed, hiding her face in her mother's shoulder.
"I was just looking at the guest book!"

Evelyn stood tall, her eyes fixed on Arthur.

"We are going to the security office right now. Beatrice, if you want to know what kind of man you are marrying, you will come with us."

Arthur tried to block their path, his voice rising in panic.

"There’s no time for this! The ceremony starts in fifteen minutes. We can handle this family matter later." But Beatrice, looking between her trembling niece and her sweating fiancé, felt a seed of doubt grow.
"No, Arthur. We are going to watch that tape."

In the dim light of the security room, the guard rewound the footage. Arthur stood in the corner, his hands shaking as he gripped his tuxedo lapels. The screen flickered to life.
