Previously: Chloe thought she was marrying the love of her life, but at the altar, Liam whispered a cruel secret. He had no idea her estranged father was actually his billionaire boss.

The Price of Greed

Liam’s world crumbled around him. He fell to his knees on the altar steps, begging for mercy.

"Arthur, please, don't do this! I worked so hard for that promotion! Chloe, tell him! We can still get married, we can start over!"

But Chloe looked down at him, feeling nothing but pity for the hollow man before her. She slowly unpinned the bridal veil from her hair and let it drop to the cold stone floor.

"There is nothing to start over, Liam,"

she said calmly.

"You never loved me. You loved a shadow you thought you could step over. I am leaving, and you are going to get exactly what you deserve."

As Chloe and Arthur turned their backs on the weeping groom, Arthur signaled to two security guards waiting at the back of the church. It turned out Arthur had not just been late due to a meeting; he had been reviewing Liam's department accounts. In his desperate rush to look successful for his "climb," Liam had embezzled thousands of dollars from Vanguard Enterprises to fund his lavish lifestyle and impress his peers.

The police were waiting outside the church doors. As Liam was led away in handcuffs, still wearing his groom's tuxedo, the remaining guests stood in stunned silence.

Chloe walked out of the church hand-in-hand with her father. Although her heart was bruised, she felt an overwhelming sense of liberation. She had lost a deceitful fiancé, but she had regained her relationship with her father, who had proven his fierce love for her when it mattered most.

Sitting in the back of her father’s car, Chloe looked out the window as the church faded into the distance. She knew the road to healing would be long, but she was no longer afraid.

True wealth is never found in a bank account or a title; it is found in the loyalty of those who stand by you when the mask finally falls.
