The silence in the cathedral was suffocating. Elizabeth slowly lowered her salute, her gaze fixing on Thomas, whose face had turned a ghostly white. "Escorted out by whom, Charles? The men in this room answer to me,"

she replied, her voice carrying clearly to every corner of the silent church. She pulled a sealed red folder from beneath her arm, the official seal of the Department of Defense visible on the cover.

"I am not here as a ghost from Thomas's past. I am here as the newly appointed Regional Commander of Naval Logistics."

Thomas stared at the folder, a sinking feeling of dread filling his chest. Fifteen years ago, his father had forced him to abandon Elizabeth, threatening to strip him of his inheritance and ruin his career if he married a woman without a wealthy pedigree. Thomas had complied, allowing his father to orchestrate his life. Now, that very woman stood before him, holding the power to destroy everything his family had built.

"The defense contract your family’s logistics company was set to sign tomorrow has been suspended,"

Elizabeth announced, opening the folder.

"An audit has revealed systemic fraud, skimming millions from navy transport operations. And the chief financial officer who signed off on every transaction was you, Thomas."
