Previously: Daniel thought his new nanny was a godsend. But when he found his 8-year-old leukemia patient washing dishes while carrying a newborn, the truth about the caregiver bills exposed a family betrayal he never saw coming.

The Hidden Camera and the First Confession

The next morning, Daniel installed a small camera in the kitchen, hidden behind a stack of cookbooks on the counter. He didn't tell Sarah about it at first—he wanted to be sure before he involved her further. But the footage he captured over the next three days made his blood boil.

Rebecca came back to the house on Wednesday, let in by Sarah, who didn't know she'd been fired. Daniel was at work, and Sarah had a shift at the hospital. Rebecca had a key—she'd had one since the beginning.

"You're late," Rebecca said to Emma, who was standing in the hallway, clutching her stuffed rabbit. "Your mommy said you had a doctor's appointment. I guess that means you're too weak to help around here."

"I'm sorry," Emma said. "The doctor said I need rest."

Rebecca laughed. "Rest? You'll get plenty of rest when you're dead." She grabbed Emma's arm and pinched it hard. Emma cried out.

"Stop! It hurts!"

"Good," Rebecca said. "Now go clean the bathroom. Use the toothbrush. And don't come out until it's spotless."

Emma stumbled down the hall, sobbing.

Daniel watched the footage in his office, his hands shaking with fury. He called Sarah. "Come home. Now."

When Sarah walked in, he played the video. She watched in silence, her face going from pale to red. "She's been doing this to my baby. My sick baby."

"And there's more," Daniel said. He pulled up the phone records. "She's been calling Rachel every day. Multiple times. And look at the bank transfers."

He showed her a spreadsheet he'd made. Every week, Rebecca transferred half of her payment to Rachel's account. "They're in this together," he said. "They've been using Emma's illness to make money."

Sarah felt sick. She grabbed her keys. "I'm going to my sister's house."

"Wait," Daniel said. "Let me come with you."

But Sarah was already out the door.

Rachel lived in a small apartment across town. She opened the door with a smile that faltered when she saw Sarah's face. "Sis? What's wrong?"

"You know what's wrong," Sarah said, pushing past her. "You've been stealing from Emma's medical fund. You've been paying Rebecca to abuse my daughter."

Rachel's face went blank. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"I have proof," Sarah said, holding up her phone. "Texts. Bank records. Video."

Rachel stared at the screen. Then, slowly, her lips curled into a smile. "Okay. So you found out. Big deal."

"Why?" Sarah demanded. "Why would you do this to your own niece?"

"Because you have everything," Rachel said, her voice cold. "You have the perfect husband. The perfect house. The perfect life. And I'm stuck in this tiny apartment with nothing. You never shared anything with me. So I decided to take."

"You took from a dying child," Sarah said, tears streaming down her face.

"She's not dying," Rachel snapped. "She's just sick. She'll get better, and then you'll go back to your perfect life and forget about me again."

"You're sick," Sarah whispered.

"No," Rachel said. "I'm just smart. And I'm not done yet."

She pulled out her phone and showed Sarah a picture. "Do you know what this is?"

Sarah looked. It was a photo of Daniel and Rachel, in a hotel room. They were kissing.

"When did this happen?" Sarah asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"About a year ago," Rachel said. "While you were in the hospital with Emma. He came to me. He said he needed comfort. And I gave it to him."

Sarah felt the floor fall out from under her. "You're lying."

"Am I?" Rachel smiled. "Ask him. Go on. Ask him if he ever told you about the night we spent together."

Sarah stumbled backward. She couldn't breathe. She ran out of the apartment, leaving Rachel laughing behind her.

Sarah drove home in a daze. Daniel was waiting on the porch. "Sarah, I can explain."

"Is it true?" she asked, her voice shaking.

Daniel's face crumpled. "Yes. It was one night. I was drunk. I was scared. You were gone. Rachel was there. It meant nothing—"

"You slept with my sister," Sarah said, her voice rising. "While your daughter was fighting for her life in a hospital bed."

"I'm so sorry," Daniel begged. "I've hated myself every day since. I never touched her again. I swear."

Sarah turned away. "I need to think."

She walked into the house and locked herself in the bathroom. She sat on the floor and sobbed until she had no tears left.

The DNA Test Reveal

A week passed. Sarah barely spoke to Daniel. She moved into the guest room. She went through the motions of caring for Emma and Noah, but her heart was a stone in her chest.

Then, one evening, she was looking at Noah's baby pictures on her phone. Something about his face—the shape of his eyes, the curve of his chin—made her pause. She looked at Rachel's profile picture. The same eyes. The same chin.

Her hands shaking, she ordered a DNA test online. Two days later, she swabbed both Noah's cheek and Daniel's cheek while he was asleep. She sent it off with a prayer on her lips.

When the results came back, she collapsed.

Noah was not Daniel's son. He was Rachel's.

Sarah stared at the paper, her mind spinning. Rachel had a son—her son. And she'd given him to Sarah. But why? And how?

She confronted Daniel. "Did you know?"

"I didn't," he said, his face ashen. "I swear I didn't."

Sarah called Rachel. "We need to talk."

Rachel met her at a park. She looked smug. "I wonder what you want to talk about."

Sarah held up the DNA test. "Noah is your son."

Rachel's smile faded. "So you found out."

"How?" Sarah demanded. "How did this happen?"

"I had a baby," Rachel said. "I didn't want it. You couldn't have any more kids after Emma—the doctors said it was too risky. So I made a deal with Daniel. He gave me money to keep quiet, and I gave him the baby."

"You sold your own child," Sarah said, disgusted.

"I gave him a better life," Rachel said. "He gets a mother who loves him. A father. A home. I got money. Everyone wins."

"Except for me," Sarah said. "You took my husband, you took my money, and you took my trust."

Rachel shrugged. "That's the price of having everything."

Sarah's hands clenched into fists. "You're going to pay for this."

"Oh, really?" Rachel laughed. "And how are you going to do that?"

"I'm going to tell everyone the truth," Sarah said. "About the fraud. About the abuse. About Noah."

Rachel's face went pale. "You wouldn't."

"Watch me."

Sarah turned and walked away, her heart pounding. She didn't know how she was going to do it. But she knew one thing—she wasn't going to let Rachel get away with this.
