He Confronted His Cop Brother-in-Law Over a Fatal Secret—Then the FBI Arrived
Previously: When Eric confronted his brother-in-law, Officer Stevens, about a fatal hit-and-run cover-up, he found himself trapped in a corrupt police station. But Eric had one final card to play.
The Trap Snaps Shut
Mark dragged Eric down the hallway toward the holding cells, his grip tight and unyielding. He opened the heavy iron door and shoved Eric inside, laughing as the door slammed shut with a heavy, final clang. Mark stood on the other side of the bulletproof glass, holding up the confiscated flash drive with a triumphant grin before slipping it into his pocket.
But as Mark turned to leave, the heavy double doors at the end of the booking area burst open. It wasn't the local deputies. Half a dozen men in dark blue tactical vests with FBI printed in bold yellow letters across their backs flooded the room, guns drawn.

Leading them was a sharp-dressed woman—the Assistant State Attorney—accompanied by a local news camera crew. Behind them walked Eric's family attorney, holding a tablet.
"Federal agents! Nobody move!" yelled the lead agent, pointing his weapon directly at a stunned Mark Stevens.
Mark froze, his hands slowly rising into the air as his face drained of all color. "What is the meaning of this? I'm an officer—"
"An officer under arrest for federal civil rights violations, obstruction of justice, and vehicular manslaughter," the federal agent interrupted, forcefully slamming Mark against the booking desk and ratcheting handcuffs onto his wrists.
Eric smiled from inside his cell. He had known all along that the local department was compromised. He had never sent a simple email to the corrupt Chief. Instead, he had arranged for his lawyer to deliver the physical cloud backup directly to the federal authorities and the regional news station two hours prior. The confrontation in the hallway had merely been a stalling tactic to keep Mark at the station until the feds arrived.
An agent unlocked Eric's cell and helped him up, apologizing for the ordeal. As Mark was led away in chains, strip-searched, and stripped of his badge, Eric knew that justice for Sarah had finally begun. Real justice cannot be hidden by a badge, for the truth always finds a way into the light.
