Clara walked slowly to the dining table, the heavy silence of the room following her every step. Mark watched her, a smug look of victory beginning to creep back onto his face. He believed he had handled the situation perfectly, establishing his dominance in front of their social circle. He assumed Clara would pack her bags and slip away quietly, defeated.

Instead, Clara slowly unsealed the brown envelope. She didn't look at the eviction notice and the check he had enclosed. Instead, she reached into her own purse and pulled out a matching set of documents, placing them deliberately on the counter.

Mark frowned, his confident posture wavering. "What is that?" he asked, his voice losing its firm edge.

Clara smiled, a cold, beautiful expression.

"You spent the last three months trying to find a way to kick me out of this house, Mark. You even got our landlord, Mr. Henderson, to agree to terminate the lease early so you could move your new mistress in."

She glanced briefly at Chloe, one of the friends standing in the corner, whose face instantly turned pale.

The rest of the room gasped. Mark’s face went completely white.

"Clara, that's enough. Just take your money and go,"

he stammered, stepping forward to grab the papers she had laid down.

But Clara placed her hand firmly over them.

"I'm not going anywhere, Mark. Because while you were busy planning my eviction, I was talking to Mr. Henderson's bank. He was desperate to sell this property to avoid foreclosure. I bought the house, Mark. The deed is officially in my name."

The revelation hit the room like a thunderbolt. The very friends Mark had brought to witness Clara's eviction were now staring at him in utter shock. Mark looked down at the documents, his hands beginning to shake as he realized the gravity of his mistake.
