Previously: A ruthless billionaire tried to force me to give up my daughter. He thought he had me cornered, but he underestimated a mother's love and a teddy bear's secret.

The Teddy Bear's Secret

Carter’s smirk widened as he saw the tears welling in my eyes. He mistook my despair for surrender. But beneath the surface, a fire was building. I wouldn't be broken. I wouldn't let him take Lily. My trembling knuckles unclenched as I reached into my worn canvas tote bag. My fingers found the familiar, soft, threadbare fur of Lily’s favorite teddy bear – a gift from her grandmother, worn soft with countless hugs.

With a decisive movement, I pulled it out and placed it firmly on the table, directly on top of his legal documents. The dull thud seemed to echo in the sudden silence. Carter’s eyes narrowed, his smirk vanishing, replaced by a look of pure annoyance. He clearly didn’t understand the significance of the worn toy.

“I wouldn't sign that paper if you paid me in blood, Carter.”

My voice, though still trembling, carried a new edge of razor-sharp venom. He leaned back, rolling his eyes in condescending mockery. “You think that old thing is going to stop me?” he sneered. He lunged forward, his hand slashing down, aiming to snatch the teddy bear, to perhaps tear it apart and further demoralize me. But I was ready.

In a split second, I activated the tiny, high-powered mini-projector hidden within the bear’s glass button eye. A beam of intense, high-definition light shot out, projecting a video onto the rough timber wall behind Carter. His arrogant sneer froze, his eyes widening in paralyzed dread as the images flickered to life. It was footage from Lily’s nursery nanny cam – footage he thought was buried, footage of him, in a fit of rage, smashing Lily’s crib, his face a mask of pure, unadulterated fury. His manicured hands began to tremble at his sides, the color draining from his face.

“Turn that off—that's fabricated, my lawyers will destroy you!”

He stammered, his voice cracking with panic. But I stood tall, my chest expanding, my hazel eyes locked on him, blazing with unyielding maternal triumph. The video played on, exposing the monster he truly was.
