Previously: In a subterranean cellar, a billionaire and a weathered farmer face an EF5 tornado. But as the storm rages, a far more dangerous secret begins to surface, threatening to tear their lives apart.

When the Doors Opened

The subterranean cellar groaned under the immense pressure. Suddenly, with an explosive metallic snap that sent sparks skittering across the damp stone, the twin forged-iron storm doors were wrenched violently upward. The massive negative barometric suction sheared through a two-inch industrial steel padlock latch as if it were butter. Julian, caught off guard, scrambled onto his hands and knees in the rising muck.

"The deadbolt snapped! We're being sucked out!" Julian shrieked, his voice choked with a suffocating, breathless terror.

Ruth, however, remained a pillar of strength. His mouth was shut tight, his bare, calloused hands clamped around the icy cast-iron rung handles. Kinetic shockwaves rippled through his forearm tendons as he fought against the impossible force. His skin tore and bled against the raw, oxidized steel, but he held firm. The sheer willpower radiating from him was palpable, a stark contrast to Julian's panicked flailing. The storm raged, and the cellar, once a refuge, was becoming a death trap.

Then, a new sound pierced the cacophony – a high-pitched scream of 200mph cyclonic uplift tearing through a four-inch door seam. Tavern chairs, glass shards, and debris from the dockside above were being vacuumed into the vortex overhead. Julian crawled forward, his eyes widening in paralyzed shock as he saw Ruth's biceps trembling under astronomical shear loads. The raw power of the tornado was immense, and Ruth, a simple farmer, was literally holding it at bay with his bare hands.
