When the door finally slid open, she rushed out, still clutching her newborn, her legs trembling. Henry was already trying to pull Betty up by her arm, not out of kindness, but to drag her away before security arrived. His face quickly smoothed into a calm, reassuring smile when he saw his wife.

"Emma, darling, go back inside! You shouldn't be out of bed," Henry said smoothly, his voice dripping with false concern. "This crazy woman was trespassing and trying to get into our room. I was just defending us."

Betty wept softly on the floor, nursing her bruised hip while trying to gather her bruised apples. Emma looked from her husband's polished leather shoes to the weeping woman.
