Previously: When Hunter mocked a struggling woman on a rainy sidewalk, he thought it was just a harmless joke. But her rescuer was about to teach him a lesson he would never forget.

The High-Stakes Lobby

Sean guided Emma inside the warm, marble-floored lobby of the towering brick building right next to where she had fallen. It was the headquarters of a prestigious investment firm, a place where fortunes were made and careers were forged. Emma was shivering slightly, her purple fleece damp from the rain. Sean immediately led her to the reception desk, requesting a warm cup of tea and some dry towels from the receptionist, who greeted Sean with immense deference.

Meanwhile, Hunter and his friends strolled into the very same lobby. Hunter smoothed down his suit jacket, adjusting his tie with an air of supreme confidence. Today was the final round of interviews for a highly coveted senior analyst position, a role that would secure Hunter's financial future. He believed he was the most qualified candidate, and his arrogant demeanor showed it. He didn't notice Emma sitting in the corner lounge, partially shielded by a large decorative plant, sipping her tea.

As Hunter waited, he boasted to his friends about how he was going to "crush" the interview. He was so consumed by his own ego that he didn't realize the man in the charcoal coat had disappeared into the private executive elevator moments earlier. To Hunter, the incident on the street was already forgotten—a minor amusement on an otherwise stressful morning.

Ten minutes later, the receptionist called Hunter's name.

"Mr. Vance? The managing partner is ready to see you now. Please head up to the penthouse office."
Hunter smiled, stood up, and confidently walked toward the elevators, adjusting his collar one last time. He imagined himself already sitting in one of those corner offices, looking down on the city below. He had no clue that the storm outside was nothing compared to the reckoning waiting for him upstairs.
