Previously: When seventy-three-year-old Henry laughed at a homeless boy's wild claim about a healing baby, he never expected a single touch to unlock a long-buried family secret and change his life forever.

A Spark of Life

Henry gasped, his breath catching in his throat as a sudden tremor ran through his body. He stared down at his leg in utter disbelief, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs. For ten years, his lower limbs had been completely numb, devoid of any sensation whatsoever. Yet now, a deep, tingling warmth was spreading upward from his knee, making his thigh muscles visibly twitch beneath his suit trousers. He looked at Toby, his voice shaking with a mixture of fear, hope, and absolute awe.

"What... what did you do?"

Henry whispered, his hands trembling as he gripped the armrests of his wheelchair so hard his knuckles turned white. Toby smiled softly, a single tear cutting a clean path through the dirt on his cheek. He stood up slowly, gently cradling the sleeping baby close to his chest.

"I told you, mister. Lily has a special gift. She brings back what was lost,"

Toby said. Henry's mind raced as he looked closer at the baby, and then his eyes fell upon the striped blanket. His breath hitched in his throat. Pinned to the corner of the faded fabric was a small, silver angel brooch. Henry knew that brooch instantly; he had bought it forty years ago for his late wife, who had passed it down to their daughter, Clara, on her sixteenth birthday. Trembling, Henry reached out, his fingers brushing the cold, familiar silver metal.

"Where did you get this blanket? Who is this baby?"

Henry demanded, his voice cracking with raw emotion. Toby swallowed hard, looking around the busy street before looking back at the old man with solemn eyes.

"My mommy was Clara,"

Toby revealed quietly.

"She told me to find you. She said if I found the angry man in the black wheelchair and showed him Lily, he would finally come home."

Henry felt the entire world spin. Clara, his estranged daughter, had sent these children to find him. But where was she?
