He Mocked the Janitor in Front of His Daughter — Then the Gold Pillar Lit Up With His Face
Previously: A rich director humiliates a 'grease monkey' and his little girl. But when the father presses his palm to the gold pillar, the entire showroom freezes — and the director's world collapses.
The Vault Doors Slammed Shut Behind Us
I shoved the phone back in my pocket. Lily was already climbing into the driver's seat of the black coupe, pretending to steer.
"Vroom vroom!" she said, giggling.

I forced a smile. "Careful, sweetheart. That one's a manual."
But my mind was racing. Victor Hale. My old partner. We'd started De Luca Motors together in a rented garage, but he'd wanted to cut corners — cheaper parts, inflated prices. I'd bought him out for a fair sum, and he'd walked away with a handshake and a grudge.
Now he was texting me? After all these years?
I pulled out my phone again and tapped out a quick message to Rocco. "Check all security footage for the last 24 hours. Look for anyone who doesn't belong."
"On it, Founder."
I turned back to Lily. She was beeping the horn now, delighted by the sound.
"Daddy, can we take this one home?"
"Not today," I said. "But I'll bring you back on Saturday. We can test-drive a few."
Her face lit up. "Really?"
"Really."
I picked her up and carried her back through the vault doors. The showroom had returned to its usual buzz, but everyone looked at me differently now. Some nodded respectfully. Others avoided my eyes.
I didn't care about any of them. I only cared about the little girl in my arms.
As we walked out to my truck — a battered old Ford that I'd driven for ten years — Lily said, "Daddy, why do we have a truck if you have twelve cars?"
"Because the truck is comfortable," I said. "And it reminds me where I came from."
"Did you come from a garage?"
"I came from a toolbox."
I buckled her into her car seat and climbed into the driver's seat. My phone buzzed again. Another text from the unknown number.
"You should check your vault. I left something for you. — V."
My blood ran cold. I turned the truck around and headed back to the showroom, my heart pounding.
"Daddy, where are we going?" Lily asked.
"I forgot something," I said. "One minute."
I parked in the loading zone and ran inside. Rocco was waiting for me at the vault door.
"Founder, we found something." He handed me a tablet. On the screen was a live feed of the vault interior. In the center, on the marble floor, was a single red rose.
"There's a note," Rocco said.
I zoomed in. The note was short, printed in clean block letters.
"I know about the girl."
I felt the air leave my lungs. The girl. Lily.
I looked up at Rocco. "Lock down the building. Now."
But even as the words left my mouth, my phone buzzed again. A photo. It was Lily, sitting in her car seat, smiling at the camera.
And then a third text.
"You have until midnight. Then I take everything. Including her."
I ran back to the truck. Lily was still there, buckled in, humming a song.
"Daddy, you look funny," she said.
I forced a smile. "It's nothing, sweetheart. Let's go home."
But as I pulled out of the lot, I saw a black SUV parked across the street. The windows were tinted, but I knew who was inside.
Victor.
And he was watching.
I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white. "I will burn this company to the ground before I let anyone hurt her," I whispered.
Lily looked up at me. "What did you say, Daddy?"
"Nothing, baby. Just talking to myself."
But I knew this wasn't over. It was just beginning.
And I would do whatever it took to protect my daughter.
