Just as Delilah opened her mouth to let the first note escape her lips, a harsh, amplified voice shattered the fragile moment. "Stop this ridiculous charade right now!" screamed Evelyn, Caleb’s wealthy and formidable mother, as she marched into the arena holding a thick manila envelope.

The crowd erupted into hushed murmurs. Delilah froze, her eyes snapping open in shock. Evelyn sneered, looking between her son and the trembling girl. "You think this is a fairy tale, Delilah? You think my son is proposing out of pure, unadulterated love?" Evelyn pulled a legal document from the envelope and held it high for everyone to see.

Caleb’s face turned deathly pale. "Mother, please, don't do this," he begged, his voice cracking as he stepped toward her. But Evelyn pushed him away, her eyes gleaming with malice.

"The truth must be told," Evelyn declared into her own microphone. "My late husband's will states that Caleb only inherits our family’s multi-million dollar rodeo empire if he marries before his twenty-fifth birthday—which is tomorrow. He is using you to secure his fortune!"

Delilah felt as if the ground beneath her boots was swallowing her whole. The man she loved had turned her grief into a publicity stunt for money. But Evelyn wasn't finished.
