He Returned Home with Flowers Only to Find His Fiancée Attacking His Grandmother
Previously: Arthur expected a peaceful family dinner when he brought home a bouquet of tulips, but walking into the foyer, he found a horrific scene of violence that shattered his world.
A Web of Lies Unravels
Diana lay on the marble floor, clutching her bruised jaw, her eyes darting between Arthur and the trembling elderly woman. The illusion of the loving fiancée was completely shattered. Arthur knelt beside Evelyn, gently lifting her head. Tears streamed down the matriarch's wrinkled cheeks as she pointed a shaking finger at the study door.
"She... she found the papers, Arthur," Evelyn whispered, her voice cracking. "She knows about your father. She wanted the key to the safe."
Arthur turned to Diana, his eyes burning with a mix of fury and profound betrayal. "What papers, Diana? What is she talking about?"
Diana let out a bitter, mocking laugh as she wiped a trickle of blood from her lip. She stood up slowly, smoothing down her burgundy dress, though her composure was entirely gone. "Oh, Arthur. You really are a naive little boy, aren't you? You think your precious grandmother is a saint? She’s been keeping a fortune from you—your father's real inheritance. And she was never going to let you touch a dime of it."
Evelyn shook her head vigorously, clinging to Arthur's sleeve. "No, Arthur, that's not true! I was protecting you. Your father... he didn't leave a fortune. He left a mountain of debt and a criminal record. I spent my entire life paying off his victims so you could carry the Sterling name with pride. Diana found the old ledgers in the attic. She thought they were bank accounts, and she wanted to blackmail me into giving her a payout!"
The truth hit Arthur like a physical blow. The woman he loved had not only assaulted his grandmother, but she had also been digging through his family's painful past, motivated by pure, unadulterated greed. Diana sneered, realizing her leverage was gone. "Please, Arthur," she sneered, "you really believe this old woman? We could have had millions. But you chose her."
