Previously: Caleb dove into the pool to save baby Lily from a rolling stroller. But when Victoria screamed he pushed her in, his world shattered—until a nanny-cam exposed everything.

The Blood on Her Dress Was Not Her Own

I ran toward Lily, my legs moving faster than I thought possible. My father was right behind me, his face pale with fear. Chloe was screaming something, but I couldn't hear her over the pounding of my own heart.

I reached Lily and dropped to my knees, my hands shaking as I examined her. She was crying, fat tears rolling down her cheeks. But she was alive. She was whole. The blood on her dress wasn't hers.

"Where's the nanny?" my father demanded, his voice sharp.

I looked past Lily, into the villa. The living room was a mess — cushions thrown on the floor, a vase shattered, a chair overturned. And in the middle of it all, sprawled on the marble, lay the nanny. Her head was bleeding.

"Call an ambulance!" I shouted to Chloe. She was already on her phone, her voice trembling as she spoke to the dispatcher.

I scooped Lily up and carried her into the kitchen, away from the chaos. She clung to me, her tiny fingers digging into my shirt.

"It was the lady," she whispered. "The pretty lady with the white dress."

My blood ran cold. "Victoria?"

Lily nodded. "She hit Nanny. She said she was going to take me away."

I looked at my father, and I saw the same terror in his eyes that I felt in my own chest. Victoria was here. She hadn't left. She'd come back.

"Where is she now?" my father asked, his voice low.

"I don't know," Lily said. "She ran out the back door."

My father was already moving toward the back of the house. I handed Lily to Chloe and followed him.

The back garden was empty. The gate was open, swinging in the wind. I could see footprints in the wet grass, leading toward the street.

"She's getting away," I said.

"No she's not," my father said, pulling out his phone. "I have the security system on my phone. I can lock every door from here."

He tapped the screen, and I heard the click of locks engaging all around us. A moment later, a scream echoed from the front of the house.

We ran. And there, in the foyer, was Victoria — trapped between the locked front door and two security guards who had appeared from nowhere.

"Let me go!" she shrieked, struggling against their grip. "I didn't do anything!"

"You hit the nanny," I said, stepping forward. "You tried to take Lily. You pushed her stroller into the pool. You've done more than enough."

Victoria's face twisted with rage. "You don't understand! This was supposed to be my life! Damien was supposed to be mine!"

My father stepped in front of me, his presence looming over her. "You were never going to be anything to me," he said, his voice cold and final. "You're a monster."

Victoria laughed, a broken, bitter sound. "You think you've won? I have evidence. I have photos. I have—"

"You have nothing," Chloe said, stepping out from behind me. She held up the tablet. "I've already sent everything to the police. The nanny-cam footage. The audio of your confession. The logs showing you tampered with the stroller. It's all over."

Victoria's face went white. "You can't—"

"I already did," Chloe said. "You're done."

The guards pulled Victoria away, her screams fading as they dragged her out the back door. A moment later, I heard the sound of police sirens approaching.

I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding. Lily was safe. The nanny was being taken care of. And Victoria was finally going to face the consequences.

My father turned to us, his eyes wet. He pulled Chloe into a hug, then me. And then he knelt down to Lily, who was still trembling in my arms.

"I'm so sorry, baby girl," he whispered. "I should have seen it sooner."

Lily reached out and patted his cheek. "It's okay, Daddy. You saved me."

He laughed, a choked sound. "Actually, your brother saved you. And your sister saved all of us."

I looked at Chloe, and she smiled at me. For the first time all day, I felt like everything was going to be okay.

The police arrived, and we gave our statements. Victoria was taken into custody, her face a mask of disbelief. She'd tried to destroy our family, but she'd only brought herself down.

That night, we sat in the living room, the pool glowing softly in the background. Lily was asleep on my father's chest, her tiny hand clutching his shirt. Chloe was curled up on the sofa, her tablet forgotten beside her.

"I can't believe she did all that," Chloe said quietly. "Over money. Over a house."

"Some people don't need a reason," I said. "They just want to watch the world burn."

My father looked at me, his eyes tired but grateful. "I'm proud of you, Caleb. You kept your head. You protected your sister."

"I just did what anyone would do," I said.

"No," he said. "You did what a hero does."

I didn't feel like a hero. I felt like a brother who'd almost lost his sister. But maybe that was enough.

As the night wore on, I realized something. Victoria had tried to tear us apart, but she'd only brought us closer. We'd faced the worst and come out stronger.

And in the end, that's what mattered.

Family isn't about blood. It's about who shows up when it counts. And we showed up.

I looked out at the pool, the water still and calm, and I thought about how different things could have been. If I'd been a second slower. If Chloe hadn't thought to check the cameras. If my father had believed Victoria instead of us.

But he didn't. And that made all the difference.

As I drifted off to sleep, I heard my father's voice, soft and steady: "I love you, son. Never doubt that."

I didn't. And I never would.
