Previously: When Ryan chose his manipulative mother over his loyal wife, Mariana, he thought he was teaching her a lesson. He had no idea she held the ultimate key to his entire empire.

The Price of Betrayal

Ryan and Eleanor believed they held all the cards. After all, the mansion, the offshore accounts, and the family investment firm all bore the prestigious family name. What Ryan had conveniently forgotten during his years of pampered luxury was the origin of that wealth. It was Mariana’s late father who had funded Ryan’s failing tech startup, saving the family from imminent bankruptcy. Under a highly confidential, ironclad prenuptial agreement, Mariana retained sole ownership of the holding company that controlled every single asset.

The morning after the gala, Ryan woke up in an empty master bedroom, nursing a mild hangover and an inflated sense of superiority. He walked downstairs to find Eleanor sipping espresso in the sunroom, already drafting a list of demands for Mariana’s apology.

"She needs to understand her place, Ryan," Eleanor sneered, adjusting her diamond necklace. "You are the man of this house."

Before Ryan could agree, his phone began to vibrate violently. It was his chief financial officer, his voice cracking with panic. "Ryan, we have a catastrophic situation. The corporate accounts, the personal trusts, even the credit cards—they’ve all been frozen. We can’t even pay the household staff."

Ryan’s blood ran cold. "What do you mean frozen? That’s impossible. Try the reserve accounts!"

"Everything is locked, sir. The legal team says a 'morality and asset reclamation' clause was triggered by your wife's legal counsel at midnight. We are completely locked out."

Just then, the heavy double doors of the mansion swung open. Mariana walked in, no longer wearing the emerald gown, but a tailored, sharp navy pantsuit. Behind her stood two security guards and her primary attorney. Eleanor gasped, rising from her chair. "What is the meaning of this outrage?" she demanded.

Mariana didn't even look at her. Her eyes were fixed on Ryan, who was staring at his phone in absolute disbelief.
