He Thought He Ruined His Helpless Wife, Until She Ripped Off Her Dress
Previously: When Julian kicked his wife to the floor of their penthouse, he thought he had won. He didn't know the woman in the bronze gown was hiding a deadly secret.
The Ghost from the Past
Julian did not plummet to the streets below. Instead, he crashed heavily onto the lower terrace’s reinforced glass canopy, gasping for air as shattered fragments sliced through his charcoal suit. Groaning in agony, he looked up through the gaping hole in the penthouse window. Framed by the city lights stood Katherine, her dark olive military uniform pristine, her expression carved from stone. She descended the terrace stairs with slow, deliberate steps, the heels of her combat boots clicking rhythmically against the metal grating.
"Who... who are you?" Julian wheezed, clutching his fractured ribs. "You're supposed to be Katherine Vance, a nobody from the Midwest!"
Katherine stood over him, looking down without a shred of pity. "My name is Major Katherine Vance, United States Army Special Operations," she said, her voice cutting through the chilly night air. "Three years ago, my unit was ambushed in a classified sector. We were betrayed by our own contractor, who sold our coordinates to the highest bidder. That contractor was you, Julian."
Julian’s face drained of color. He had spent years erasing the paper trail of his treasonous arms deals, believing the soldiers who died in that desert were gone forever. He had never expected one of the survivors to hunt him down, let alone infiltrate his high-society social circle and marry him to get close to his secure servers. Every smile, every quiet evening, and every supportive word Katherine had given him was a calculated move in a long, patient game of espionage.
"You think you can arrest me?" Julian spat, trying to find his footing. "I have the politicians in my pocket. I have the police. You have nothing but a fancy uniform!"
Katherine smiled, a cold, dangerous expression. "I didn't come here just to arrest you, Julian. I came to dismantle everything you built."
”I came to dismantle everything you built."
