The Marble Foyer's Secret

The afternoon sun, thick and golden, poured through the towering cathedral windows of the Varric estate, illuminating dust motes dancing in the cavernous marble foyer. Calacatta marble, veined with stark black and white, stretched across the floor, reflecting the opulent gleam of a multi-tiered crystal chandelier. It was a scene of immense wealth, yet the air crackled with desperation. Billionaire Matteo Varric, a man whose presence commanded attention, paced restlessly near the grand staircase. His usual commanding aura was replaced by a father's raw exhaustion. He clutched his five-month-old son, Nico, whose inconsolable screams echoed off the high ceilings. The infant, dressed in a soft sky-blue romper, was flushed and clearly distressed.

Standing near a gilded console table was Genevieve, the family's VIP nanny. Her severe blonde bun and immaculate designer uniform exuded an air of haughty control. She waved a dismissive hand. "Mr. Varric, this infant is simply impossible to soothe," she declared, her voice a shrill mezzo-soprano. Her gaze flicked to Liana Graves, the newly hired maid, who stood frozen in the center of the foyer. A stack of freshly laundered white Egyptian cotton linens had slipped from Liana's trembling hands, scattering across the pristine marble floor. "And you there—maid, pick up those linens and get out of the foyer!" Genevieve snapped. Liana’s delicate features were etched with a quiet anxiety, her chestnut hair neatly pulled back. Matteo remained silent, his dark eyes shadowed with paternal exhaustion, while Liana’s lower lip quivered, her stack of linens tumbling to the floor.
