Previously: When Maya returned from her military deployment, she expected a peaceful homecoming. Instead, she found her abusive uncle putting his hands on her defenseless grandmother—and she immediately sprang into action.

The Secrets of the House

Richard groaned on the floor, clutching his chest as he struggled to breathe. The shock of the kick had knocked the wind out of him, but the realization of who had delivered it stung even worse. He looked up, his eyes widening in a mixture of anger and fear as he recognized his niece. Maya stood tall, her posture rigid and her eyes burning with a protective fire that made him hesitate.

"Maya? What are you doing here?" Richard spat, slowly pushing himself up against the wall. "This is family business. Get out of my way. That old woman has lost her mind, and she's ruining this family!"

Martha sobbed softly behind Maya, clutching the hem of her granddaughter's cargo pants. Maya reached down, gently squeezing her grandmother’s hand to reassure her, never once taking her eyes off her abusive uncle.

"The only one ruining this family is you, Richard," Maya said, her voice deadly calm. "I saw what you did to her. It ends today."

Richard let out a harsh, mocking laugh, trying to mask his intimidation. He pointed a trembling finger at the elderly woman. "She owes me! This house belongs to me. I have the papers right here, and she is going to sign them whether she wants to or not!" He reached into his back pocket, pulling out a crumpled stack of legal documents.

But Martha, finding her voice under the safety of Maya's presence, spoke up from the floor. "I will never sign them, Richard," she whispered, her voice shaking but resolute. "Because I already signed the deed over to Maya last month. You have nothing."

Richard's face drained of color, his greedy eyes darting between the two women. The realization that his elaborate scheme to seize the property had completely failed drove him into a blind, desperate frenzy.
