Previously: A greedy cousin tries to strip a 6-year-old of his inheritance with a forged will. But the boy holds the key to a secret that will shatter her schemes and expose a decades-old betrayal.

The Whispered Threat That Changed Everything

The courtroom emptied, but the echoes of Felicity's words lingered like a foul odor. I couldn't shake the feeling that her threat was more than just the ravings of a desperate woman. There was something in her eyes — a knowing glint that made my skin crawl.

Later that evening, in the quiet of my study, I sat with Ethan. He was curled up on the leather sofa, the music box in his hands, its gentle melody filling the room. It was the same song my wife used to hum to him before bed.

"Dad," Ethan said, his voice small. "What did she mean about Aunt Sarah?"

My heart stopped. Sarah. My wife's sister. She had died in a car accident years ago, or so I had been told. But now, with Felicity's words echoing in my mind, I wasn't so sure.

I knelt before Ethan, taking the music box from him. "What do you know about Aunt Sarah?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

Ethan looked at me with those innocent eyes. "Mommy said she had a secret. She said if anything ever happened to her, I should open the music box."

My hands trembled as I examined the music box. It was an antique, inlaid with mother-of-pearl. I had never really looked at it closely before. But now, I noticed a tiny seam along its side.

I pried it open, and a folded piece of paper fell out. It was a letter, written in my wife's handwriting. As I read it, my blood turned to ice.

"Lorenzo, if you're reading this, it means I'm gone. And I'm sorry I couldn't tell you the truth in person. Sarah didn't die in a car accident. She was murdered. And the person who did it is still out there, living among us."

I read on, my eyes scanning the words. Sarah had discovered that Felicity was embezzling from the family trust. She had threatened to expose her. And then, two weeks later, she was dead.

I looked at Ethan, who was watching me with wide eyes. "Your mom... she knew," I whispered.

"What do we do now?" Ethan asked.

I stood up, my mind racing. "We find out the truth," I said. "And we make sure Felicity pays for everything she's done."

But even as I said it, a cold dread settled in my stomach. Felicity was in police custody, but she had connections. Powerful ones. And if she felt cornered, she would stop at nothing to protect herself.

The next morning, I received a call from my lawyer. "Lorenzo, you need to come to the office. There's something you should see."

When I arrived, he handed me a stack of documents. "I found these in Sarah's safety deposit box," he said. "It's a trail of bank transfers, all going to a shell company controlled by Felicity."

I felt a surge of fury. "That's enough to put her away for years."

But then I saw another document — a birth certificate. It showed a child's name: Ethan Moretti. But the mother's name was not my wife's. It was Sarah's.

I stared at the paper, my mind reeling. "What does this mean?" I asked.

My lawyer shook his head. "I think it means Ethan is not your son... he's your nephew."

The world tilted. I gripped the edge of the desk, struggling to breathe. Ethan — my son, my everything — was actually my sister-in-law's child. And my wife had kept it a secret.

But why? And where was Sarah now? She was supposed to be dead.

The questions swirled in my head, but one thing was clear: Felicity wasn't just after the inheritance. She was after something far more dangerous — the truth about Ethan's parentage.

And if that truth got out, it could destroy everything.
