The storm raged outside, a furious symphony of wind and rain battering the isolated roadside diner. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of burnt coffee and the metallic tang of grease, a stark contrast to the opulence one of its occupants represented. Carter Ross, a man sculpted by privilege and arrogance, lounged in a cracked scarlet vinyl booth. His hair, slicked back with pomade, gleamed under the flickering neon signs. A camel cashmere overcoat, unbuttoned to reveal a charcoal turtleneck, did little to soften the sharp lines of his sneering jaw. A diamond-bezel watch glinted on his manicured wrist, a symbol of a world far removed from this humble refuge.

Standing before him, a figure of resilience forged by the sea, was Lily Vance. Her auburn hair, damp and clinging to her forehead, framed a face windburned and weathered by the sun and salt. She wore the practical garb of a deep-sea diver – a heavy, salt-crusted neoprene sweater under a yellow oilskin jacket. Her calloused, oil-stained hands clutched a waterlogged green canvas duffel bag, its contents still dripping brackish ocean water onto the scuffed linoleum floor.

Carter, with a condescending sneer, flicked a crumpled piece of paper onto the wet table. It was a salvage permit revocation notice. "Face it, Lily," he drawled, his voice laced with mockery, "your father drowned chasing ghost galleons and you're just a bankrupt harbor rat." His eyes, gleaming with smug superiority, bored into her.

Lily remained silent, her jaw clenched so tight her cheeks rippled. Tears of rage welled, but she refused to let them fall. Carter leaned forward, tapping his gold timepiece impatiently. A cruel grin spread across his face. "Sign over your father's dive cutter tonight, or I'll have the maritime marshal seize it by sunrise." His tone was laced with venomous condescension, a patronizing amusement that grated on Lily's nerves.

Her breath hitched, her knuckles whitening around the duffel bag. But beneath the surface of her trembling, a steely resolve hardened. With a sudden, explosive burst of energy, Lily swung the heavy, waterlogged bag, slamming it onto the Formica table with a concussive thud. The impact rattled the silverware and sent a spray of saltwater onto Carter’s pristine cashmere. He recoiled in startled shock. "My father mapped the coordinates before the sea took him, Ross," Lily stated, her voice trembling but sharp with defiance. Carter, eyes wide with indignant shock, flinched back into the booth.
