Previously: A wealthy heiress humiliates a blind child in first class. But when the fleet owner steps in, her world crashes harder than any turbulence she's ever faced.

The Owner's Unexpected Invitation

Elena didn't know what to expect when Rafael Castellano gestured for them to follow him. But when he led them through the galley and up the spiral staircase to the upper deck, her breath caught in her throat.

The VIP lounge was unlike anything she had ever seen. Saddle-tan leather lie-flat suites lined the walls, each with its own privacy screen and a console stocked with champagne. A backlit onyx bar stretched along one side, its surface gleaming like polished night. The carpet was plush charcoal, muffling every step.

"This is the owner's suite," Rafael said, gesturing to a set of double doors at the end of the lounge. "It's not on any ticket. It's reserved for me, my family, and special guests."

He opened the doors, revealing a spacious cabin with a king-sized bed, a private bathroom with a rain shower, and a panoramic window that offered a view of the clouds stretching to the horizon. Leo gasped, his small hands reaching out to touch the glass.

"It feels like we're flying on top of the world," he said.

Rafael smiled. "That's exactly what I wanted you to feel."

He led them to a plush sofa and sat down, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp. "I have a proposition for you, Elena."

Elena sat down, her heart racing. "What kind of proposition?"

"I've been looking for someone to help me expand my foundation," Rafael said. "It's dedicated to children with visual impairments. My daughter, Sofia, was born blind, and I've spent the last ten years building a network of resources for families like yours."

He paused, letting the words sink in. "But I can't do it alone. I need someone who understands the challenges — someone who's lived them."

Elena's eyes filled with tears. "I'm just a waitress, Mr. Castellano. I don't have any experience in… in anything like this."

"You have something more important," Rafael said. "You have a son who sees the world brighter than anyone I've ever met. And you have the strength to stand up to people like Vanessa Belmont."

He leaned forward. "I want you to lead my foundation's family outreach program. I'll triple your salary, provide housing, and cover Leo's education and medical expenses."

Elena's mouth hung open. "I… I don't know what to say."

"Say yes," Rafael said. "For Leo."

But before she could answer, a flight attendant appeared at the door, her face pale. "Mr. Castellano, we have a problem."

Rafael's expression hardened. "What kind of problem?"

"It's Ms. Belmont. She's in the economy cabin, and she's… causing a scene. She's telling other passengers that you kidnapped a child."

Elena's blood ran cold. "What?"

Rafael stood, his jaw tightening. "She's not going to stop, is she?"

"She's threatening to sue the airline," the attendant said. "She's saying she'll go to the press."

Rafael's eyes narrowed. "Let her."

He pulled out his phone and tapped a few buttons. "I have video footage of everything that happened in first class," he said. "Every camera on this plane is monitored. If she wants to go to the press, I'll release the recording. Let the public decide who's in the wrong."

Elena felt a surge of hope. But then a new fear crept in. "What if she does something worse? What if she tries to hurt Leo?"

Rafael turned to her, his expression grim. "She won't get within a hundred feet of him. I'll make sure of that."

He signaled to the attendant. "Have the security officers escort Ms. Belmont to the rear of the plane. She's to be confined to her seat for the remainder of the flight. If she causes any more trouble, we'll have her arrested upon landing."

The attendant nodded and disappeared. Rafael turned back to Elena, his features softening.

"I'm sorry you had to go through this," he said. "But I promise you, it's not over yet."

"What do you mean?" Elena asked.

Rafael looked at Leo, who was still pressing his face against the window, oblivious to the drama unfolding around him.

"Vanessa Belmont isn't just a rude passenger," Rafael said. "She's the daughter of a man who's been trying to buy my airline for years. She wasn't on this flight by accident. She was sent here to cause chaos, to find a weakness."

Elena's stomach dropped. "So this was… deliberate?"

"I don't know," Rafael said. "But I intend to find out."

He pulled out his phone again, this time scrolling through a series of documents. "I've been investigating her father's business practices for months. He's been using shell companies to hide debt. If he's desperate enough to send his daughter to sabotage my flight, he's closer to collapse than I thought."

Elena watched as he worked, her mind spinning. This was so much bigger than a rude passenger. This was a corporate war.

"What happens now?" she asked.

Rafael looked up, his eyes blazing with determination. "Now, we land. And then I'm going to make sure Vanessa Belmont never flies on any airline again."

Leo turned from the window, his face bright. "Mr. Castellano, can you feel the clouds?"

Rafael's expression softened. "No, son. But I bet you can."

Leo nodded, a smile spreading across his face. "They're soft. Like cotton candy."

Rafael laughed, a deep, warm sound. "Then let's go see if we can find some cotton candy clouds."

He stood and offered Elena his hand. "Come. I want to show you the cockpit."

Elena hesitated. "Is that allowed?"

"I own the plane," Rafael said. "I can do whatever I want."

He led them toward the front of the aircraft, passing through a curtained doorway and into a narrow corridor. At the end, a set of heavy metal doors stood ajar, revealing the cockpit.

The captain looked up, startled. "Mr. Castellano! I wasn't expecting you."

"I'm bringing guests," Rafael said. "This is Leo and his mother, Elena."

The captain smiled warmly. "Welcome aboard, Leo. Would you like to sit in the captain's chair?"

Leo's face lit up. "Really?"

"Really."

Rafael lifted Leo into the leather captain's chair, guiding his small hands to the yoke. "You are our honorary captain," he said. "You're in charge now."

Leo laughed, a sound of pure joy. "I'm flying the plane!"

Elena watched, tears streaming down her face, as her son sat in the cockpit, his blind eyes shining with wonder. For the first time in years, she felt hope.

But she didn't know that the worst was yet to come.
