Previously: A cruel foster mother, a trembling six-year-old, and a pearl locket that held a billionaire's secret. When the Rosewoods arrived for a welfare check, they never imagined the child scrubbing floors was their own missing daughter.

The Reckoning at the Rosewood Gate

Richard Whitmore stepped inside, shaking rain from his coat, his eyes fixed on Maya. The child clutched Julian’s neck, her small fingers digging into his collar. She didn’t know why, but she knew this man was the reason she’d spent six years scrubbing floors.

“Victoria,” Richard said, his voice smooth as silk. “I see you’ve found my little insurance policy.”

Victoria’s face went white. “Your what?”

Richard smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “When you and Julian started restructuring the foundation, I knew it was only a matter of time before you cut me out. So I made sure I had something to hold over you. A granddaughter. A legal claim. A reason for the board to keep me in power.”

Julian stepped forward, his voice ice. “You had your own granddaughter sold into the foster system?”

“I had her placed in a family that would keep her out of sight,” Richard said. “The fact that she ended up here is just a detail. The point is, she’s alive. And I have the paperwork to prove that I’m her legal guardian.”

Maya started to cry, a quiet sound that broke Victoria’s heart. She reached for her daughter, pulling her from Julian’s arms, holding her close.

“You will never touch her again,” Victoria said, her voice shaking with rage. “I don’t care what paperwork you have.”

“The courts will care,” Richard said. “I have the birth certificate. I have the adoption records. I have the medical files from Dr. Price. You can fight it, but you’ll lose.”

Julian pulled out his phone. “Then let’s let the courts decide.” He dialed a number, and a moment later, a man’s voice answered. “Marcus? I need you to pull every file on the Rosewood Foundation. Every trust, every transfer, every offshore account. I need to know where Richard Whitmore has been hiding his money.”

Richard’s smile faltered. “You wouldn’t.”

“I would,” Julian said. “And I’ll find something. I always do.”

Victoria held Maya tighter, whispering into her hair. “You’re safe now, baby. You’re safe.”

Maya looked up at her, her eyes huge. “Is he really my grandpa?”

“No,” Victoria said, her voice firm. “He’s just a man who made a terrible mistake. And he’s going to pay for it.”

Richard laughed, but it was hollow. “You think you can take her from me? I’m her grandfather. I have rights.”

“You had rights,” Julian said, stepping closer. “And then you sold her. That’s a crime, Richard. And I have witnesses.” He gestured to Dr. Price, who was now being handcuffed by the officers. “He’s already confessed.”

Richard’s face went pale. “He wouldn’t.”

“He did,” Julian said. “On camera. I recorded everything.”

Victoria’s phone buzzed. She glanced at it, and her eyes widened. “Julian, the board just voted. They’re removing Richard from the foundation. They’re saying it’s effective immediately.”

Richard’s jaw dropped. “That’s impossible. I have the votes.”

“You had the votes,” Victoria said, “until they saw the news coverage of my daughter being rescued from a foster home. You’re finished, Father.”

Maya sniffled, wiping her nose on Victoria’s sleeve. “Can we go home now?”

Victoria kissed her forehead. “Yes, sweetheart. We’re going home.”

As the officers led Richard away, his eyes locked on Maya, and for a moment, he looked almost sad. “She was supposed to be my legacy,” he said.

“She is,” Julian said. “But not your legacy. Ours.”

They walked out of the boarding house, into the cold rain, and Maya looked up at the sky for the first time in her life without fear. She had a family. She had a name. She had a future.

And as they drove away, the locket warm against her chest, Maya knew that she would never have to scrub a floor again.

She was a Rosewood. And she was finally home.
