Her Mother Left a Secret Key and a Biker’s Name on Her Deathbed
Previously: After losing her mother and facing eviction, nineteen-year-old Chloe is forced to trust a mysterious biker group. What she discovers about her family changes her life forever.
Unveiling the Past
Chloe climbed onto the back of Marcus’s heavy motorcycle, her hands trembling as she held onto his leather jacket. The ride was a blur of cold wind and rushing streets, finally ending outside a quiet, dimly lit diner on the edge of town. The rest of the motorcycle group parked nearby, keeping a respectful distance as Marcus led Chloe to a booth in the back.
As the warmth of the diner thawed her frozen fingers, Marcus ordered two hot chocolates. He sat across from her, studying her face with an intensity that made Chloe nervous. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the small brass key her mother had given her on her deathbed, sliding it across the table.
'My mother told me to find you if I ever ran out of options,'Chloe said, her voice shaking.
'She said you were the only one who could help me. But she never explained why.'
Marcus picked up the key, his expression softening into a look of profound sadness. He sighed, running a hand over his tired face. 'Your mother was a remarkable woman, Chloe. She spent her entire life trying to protect you,' he began gently. 'And she kept me a secret to keep you safe.'
Chloe frowned, confusion swirling in her mind.
'Safe from what? Who are you?'she demanded, desperate for answers.
Marcus took a deep breath and looked directly into her eyes.
'I’m not a stranger, Chloe. I’m your uncle. Your mother’s younger brother. Years ago, our family was targeted by dangerous people because of a debt my father couldn't pay. To keep you safe from that dark world, your mother cut ties with me and took you away, pretending we didn't exist. But we made a promise: if she ever passed, I would step in and take over.'
