The silence that followed was suffocating. Margaret’s hand, still clutching the empty red ring box, began to tremble violently. She reached out as if to snatch the papers, but Chloe scrambled backward, clutching the document tightly to her chest. The birth certificate listed Chloe’s birth date, but the names of the parents were entirely wrong. It didn't list Margaret's late son as the father. Instead, the mother’s name printed in clear, elegant ink was Eleanor Vance.

Chloe’s gaze locked onto Eleanor, who was still standing paralyzed by the piano. Eleanor’s face was pale, tears quietly streaming down her cheeks.
