Previously: When a tattered, barefoot young stranger approached wealthy Nicholas in a luxury restaurant promising to cure his paralysis, nobody believed him—until a miracle occurred and a hidden past emerged.

The Weight of Betrayal

Nicholas stood trembling, his legs—lifeless for ten long years—now solid and strong beneath him. The crowded room was a chorus of gasps, cameras flashing as wealthy patrons recorded the impossible medical miracle. But Nicholas barely noticed them. His eyes were locked on the young stranger, who remained kneeling on the floor, tears cutting clean paths through the grime on his face.

"You don't recognize me, do you, Uncle Nicholas?" the boy whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I am Owen. Sarah's son."

The name struck Nicholas like a physical blow. Sarah, his beloved younger sister, had vanished eighteen years ago. The family patriarch had claimed she stole a portion of the inheritance and fled the country, leaving Nicholas to inherit the empire alone. Nicholas had searched for her for years, plagued by guilt, but had always hit dead ends.

Owen reached into his tattered pocket and pulled out a silver locket, holding it up. Nicholas recognized it instantly; it was the heirloom he had gifted Sarah on her sixteenth birthday. "My mother died in a homeless shelter three months ago," Owen said, his eyes flashing with a mix of sorrow and deep-seated anger. "She always told me that you turned your back on her, that you signed the papers to banish her so you could keep the family fortune for yourself."

"No... that's a lie! I would never do that!" Nicholas cried out, his voice echoing through the silent restaurant. "I spent millions trying to find her!"

Suddenly, Nicholas’s business partner and lifelong friend, Arthur, stepped forward. His face was pale, his eyes darting nervously toward the exits. "Nicholas, don't listen to this street rat!" Arthur hissed, grabbing Owen by the shoulder to drag him away. "He’s a con artist trying to extort you now that you can walk!" But as Arthur violently shoved the boy, a thick manila envelope slipped from Arthur’s expensive coat, spilling legal documents onto the wet, wine-stained floor.
