Previously: A wealthy billionaire is miraculously healed by a homeless youth, only to discover the young man holds a dark secret from his past.

A Ghost from the Past

Arthur stood frozen, his heart hammering against his ribs. He looked down at his feet, then back up at the young man who had just performed the impossible. Tears welled in the billionaire's eyes as he took a tentative step forward. The muscles in his legs, dormant for ten long years, held his weight perfectly. It was a medical impossibility, an outright miracle.

"How... how did you do this?" Arthur gasped, his voice cracking with emotion. "Who are you?"

The young man slowly rose from the floor. The submissive, tattered look on his face dissolved, replaced by a cold, piercing glare that made Arthur’s blood run cold. He didn't look like a beggar anymore; he looked like an executioner.

"My name is Leo," the boy said, his voice flat and devoid of warmth. "And my last name is Vance. Does that ring a bell, Arthur?"

The name hit Arthur like a physical blow. Julian Vance had been his brilliant chief medical researcher a decade ago. Julian had been on the verge of a breakthrough in bio-electronic nerve regeneration. But Arthur, driven by greed, had stolen the patents, framed Julian for corporate espionage to avoid paying him, and ruined his life. Julian had died in poverty and disgrace shortly after.

"You stole my father's life's work," Leo said, holding up a tiny wireless remote. "I slipped his prototype bio-patch onto your foot. It's bypassing your spinal injury right now. But it only has a three-minute charge left."

Arthur panicked, feeling the warmth in his legs already beginning to flicker. "Please, Leo! I'll give you the million! Ten million! Anything you want!"

"I don't want your money, Arthur," Leo whispered, his finger hovering over the shut-off button. "I want justice. And I want you to feel what it's like to have your hope ripped away."
