A Miracle at Midnight

The atmosphere inside the high-rise steakhouse was thick with the scent of charred wagyu, expensive red wine, and the quiet arrogance of the ultra-wealthy. Victor Vance sat in his state-of-the-art orthopedic wheelchair, a glass of vintage Cabernet clutched in his hand. At forty-two, he possessed everything money could buy, yet he was a prisoner to his own body. A devastating car accident five years prior had severed his connection to his legs, leaving him bitter and detached. Beside him sat his beautiful young wife, Beatrice, draped in diamonds, laughing at a joke made by their wealthy companions.

Suddenly, the heavy glass doors of the restaurant swung open, shattering the elegant ambiance. A young man, barely twenty-one, stumbled in. He was barefoot, his clothes tattered and stained, looking like a ghost from the city's forgotten underbelly. The wealthy guests gasped, murmuring in disgust. Security guards immediately lunged to intercept him, but the young man dodged them with surprising agility. His eyes were locked onto Victor.

He marched straight to Victor’s table and stopped. The entire room fell into a stunned silence. Phones were raised to record the bizarre confrontation. Beatrice recoiled in disgust. "Get this garbage away from us!" she hissed. But the stranger ignored her. He looked directly at Victor.

"Sir," the young man said, his voice steady.

Victor stared at him, skeptical but intrigued by the raw intensity in the boy's eyes. Before anyone could react, the young man crouched down beside the wheelchair, looking up at the billionaire.

"I can fix your leg," he whispered.

Victor let out a dry, humorless laugh.

"How long?" he asked.

"Three seconds," the boy replied.

Dylan placed his calloused hand firmly onto Victor's expensive leather shoe.

"One," Dylan counted.
Victor felt a sudden, impossible spark of warmth in his toes.
"Two," Dylan said.
The warmth surged into a burning, electric heat rushing up his calves. Victor watched in suspense, his wine glass trembling.
"Three," Dylan whispered.
With a sudden gasp, Victor pushed himself up. To the utter shock of everyone in the room, the paralyzed billionaire stood perfectly upright on his own two feet.
