Previously: At a lavish backyard party, wealthy Edward tries to throw out a poor boy playing a flute—until the child hands him a photo that reveals a devastating secret from his past.

A Shattering Revelation

The words hung in the warm night air, heavy and impossible to ignore. Edward stared at the boy, his mind racing through a blur of memories. Twenty years ago, he had been deeply in love with Clara, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. When his wealthy parents found out, they threatened to disown him and sent him away to Europe. Months later, they told him Clara had suffered a miscarriage and moved away. He had spent two decades believing his child was gone, only to find him standing on his lawn, holding a flute and begging for help.

Before Edward could process the truth, his wife, Evelyn, stepped forward. Her designer gown rustled as she snatched the photograph from Edward's trembling hands. Her eyes widened in fury as she recognized the young Edward in the photo.

She turned on the boy, grabbing his small shoulder with a tight, painful grip.

Toby whimpered, trying to pull away from her grasp. "No! My mom is Clara! She's in the county hospital, and she's really sick! She told me Edward was a good man who would help us!"

Two security guards rushed over, eager to please their wealthy employers. Evelyn waved them forward. "Take this little liar away and call the police. I won't have our reputation ruined by street trash."

Edward stood frozen, caught between the life of luxury he had built and the ghost of the only woman he had ever truly loved. He looked at Toby's terrified face, seeing the unmistakable green of Clara's eyes. If he stayed silent, he would lose his son forever.
