Previously: When a starving young woman asked a bank clerk to check if her old card had enough for food, she didn't expect the entire financial system to lock down.

The Lockdown

Within seconds of Ari's command, the heavy security shutters of the local bank branch slid down with a deafening metallic clang. The automated glass doors locked shut, trapping everyone inside. Alarms began to blare, bathing the plush lobby in pulsing amber light. Maya panicked, tears streaming down her pale cheeks as she clung to the woman in the grey blazer.

"I'm sorry! I didn't do anything wrong!" Maya cried, terrified that she was going to be arrested just for trying to buy a sandwich.

The kind stranger, whose name was Sarah, held her tight. "Shh, it's okay. It's just a system glitch. Stay calm."

Ten minutes later, a convoy of black SUVs screeched to a halt outside the branch. The security shutters rose just enough to let a group of men in dark suits enter, led by Ari himself. The CEO's eyes swept the room, expecting to find a highly organized team of international hackers or a rogue corporate spy.

Instead, his gaze landed on a frail, shivering young woman in a dirty teal hoodie, shivering on a leather bench.

Ari walked over, his expression a mix of intense suspicion and profound confusion. He held the mysterious black card in his gloved hand.

"Who are you?" Ari demanded, his voice echoing in the silent lobby. "And where did you get this card? This belongs to a man who died fifteen years ago."

Maya looked up, her eyes wide with fear.

"It was my father's," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the air conditioning. "He gave it to me before he disappeared. He told me to never use it unless I was absolutely starving and had nowhere else to turn. Today is my twenty-fifth birthday. I had no other choice."

Ari froze. He stared at her face, suddenly seeing the unmistakable features of his late mentor, Julian Vance.
