Previously: When a twelve-year-old girl in a worn-out dress played a forbidden melody on a grand piano, she didn't just want a plate of food—she unleashed a devastating family secret.

A Legacy Built on Lies

The name hung in the air like a phantom. Thomas felt the room tilt. Clara’s daughter—his own niece—was standing before him in rags, begging for food in the very home that should have been half hers. Ignoring the whispers of the crowd, Thomas grabbed the girl's hand and led her away from the ballroom into his private study.

Once behind closed doors, he knelt before her.

"My name is Thomas. Clara was my sister," he said, his voice cracking. "Where is she, Lily?"

Lily, whose eyes welled with tears, explained that her mother had passed away just a month ago from a long illness. They had lived in poverty, barely surviving on what Clara earned from sewing. But before she died, Clara had given Lily a sealed envelope and told her to play her song at the Vance estate if she ever found herself with nowhere else to go.

With trembling hands, Thomas opened the faded envelope. Inside was not just a letter, but a legal document—a modified version of their father’s will, dated fifteen years ago.

As Thomas read the document, the horrifying truth unfolded. Clara hadn't run away. Their father, obsessed with keeping the Vance empire undivided, had forged documents to disinherit Clara and cast her out. Even worse, the document was co-signed by Harold Sterling, the family’s trusted attorney who was currently downstairs at the gala.

Just as the realization settled, the study door opened. Harold Sterling walked in, his expression cold and calculating as he took in the scene. He looked at the paper in Thomas’s hand and sneered.

"You always were too soft, Thomas," Sterling said quietly, shutting the door. "Your father did what was necessary to protect the legacy. If you try to change things now, I will reveal secrets that will destroy this family's name forever."
