Previously: When a ragged stranger approached billionaire Arthur in a luxury restaurant claiming he could cure his paralysis in seconds, everyone laughed. But as the countdown began, the room fell dead silent.

The Secret in the Chair

The silence in the restaurant was deafening. Arthur’s chest heaved as he stared down at his foot. The toes were twitching—actually twitching. For half a decade, his lower body had been a useless weight, dead to the world. Now, a fierce, prickling sensation was rushing up his calves like liquid fire.

"What did you do to him?"
Victoria shrieked, her face turning pale as she tried to push Owen away.
"Get this lunatic out of here! Security!"

But Arthur roared,

"Don't touch him!"
The sheer power in Arthur's voice made the approaching guards freeze. He looked at Owen, sweat breaking out on his forehead.
"Who are you? How did you do this?"

Owen did not stand up. He kept his hands firmly on the base of the robotic wheelchair, tracing a small, hidden seam near the battery pack.

"My name is Owen Vance,"
he said quietly.

Arthur’s heart stopped. Vance. Memories rushed back—memories of Dr. Julian Vance, the brilliant neuroscientist who had developed a revolutionary bio-electric nerve stimulator. Arthur’s company had acquired the patent through a hostile takeover, driving Dr. Vance into bankruptcy and an early grave.

"You're Julian's son,"
Arthur whispered, a wave of guilt washing over him.

"Yes,"
Owen said, his eyes burning with a mixture of pain and determination.
"My father didn't just design the cure, Arthur. He designed this very wheelchair prototype to help regenerate damaged nerves. But your board of directors didn't want you cured. A cured billionaire doesn't buy millions of dollars in daily synthetic nerve-suppressants."

Arthur stared in disbelief.

"What are you saying?"

Owen pointed to a tiny, blinking red light hidden beneath the seat.

"This chair is sabotaged. It has been emitting a low-frequency block to keep your spinal column dormant. And the person who authorized the installation of this blocker is standing right next to you."

Arthur slowly turned his head to look at Victoria. Her elegant facade completely crumbled, her eyes darting frantically around the room.
