Previously: When a homeless man is cruelly mocked by a high-end salon receptionist, a kind-hearted stylist steps in to help. Neither of them expected the life-changing surprise that followed.

An Act of Pure Defiance

Andrew guided William to his styling chair, ignoring the collective gasps and disapproving murmurs from the rest of the staff. Brittany marched over, her arms crossed tightly over her white blouse.

"Andrew, are you out of your mind?"
she hissed under her breath.
"If management finds out you're giving free rides to vagrants, you're finished. You're violating store policy."

Andrew didn't flinch.

"Then let them fire me,"
he replied calmly, draping a clean black cape over William's shoulders.
"But I'm not going to turn away someone who just wants a chance to rebuild his life."

For the next forty-five minutes, Andrew treated William like royalty. He gently washed the dust from the older man’s silver hair, massaged his scalp, and began to carefully trim away years of neglect. As they spoke, William revealed that he had lost everything after a personal tragedy, but today was his chance to turn things around.

"I have a very important meeting tomorrow,"
William explained softly.
"It's a meeting that will decide the fate of many people."

Andrew listened intently, offering words of encouragement. Seeing that William's shirt under his jacket was frayed, Andrew went to his locker and retrieved a brand-new, unworn button-down shirt he had kept for a special occasion.

"Here, take this too,"
Andrew said, handing it over.
"You need to look your best."

Brittany watched the entire exchange with disgust, immediately typing an email to the corporate office.

"Enjoy your last day, Andrew,"
she sneered as William finally stood up, looking like a completely different man. He thanked Andrew once more, repeating his promise of a surprise, and walked out with his head held high.
