A Transformation and a Threat

Christopher guided George to his styling station, ignoring the glaring eyes of his colleagues. For the next forty-five minutes, Christopher treated the elderly man not as a homeless beggar, but as a valued guest. He gently washed George's hair, trimmed his wild grey beard into a neat, distinguished shape, and styled his hair with precision. Throughout the process, the two chatted warmly. George spoke of his late wife and his past as a businessman before tragedy struck, while Christopher listened with genuine empathy.

Meanwhile, Megan stood near the counter, whispering furiously to the senior stylist. As Christopher finished blow-drying George's hair, Megan marched over, her arms crossed defensively.

"You’re wasting company time and expensive products on someone who can't pay, Christopher," Megan hissed. "When the owner hears about this, you're going to be fired. We have standards to maintain, and this is completely unacceptable."

Christopher didn't flinch. He handed George a warm towel and looked Megan dead in the eye.

"If helping a fellow human being look presentable for a job interview gets me fired, then I don't want to work here anyway," Christopher replied calmly. "There are some things more valuable than a fifty-dollar commission."

George stood up, looking remarkably different. The neat haircut and trimmed beard revealed the strong, handsome features of a man who had once commanded respect. He shook Christopher’s hand warmly, leaving the single dollar bill in the stylist's palm.

"You have a good heart, Christopher," George said, his voice now sounding surprisingly strong and resonant. "Remember what I said. Kindness always comes back to those who give it."

With those words, George walked out of the salon. The rest of the day was filled with tense silence, with Megan promising that Monday morning would be Christopher's last day. Sure enough, on Monday, a sleek, black luxury limousine pulled up directly in front of the salon's floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
