A collective gasp rippled through the elegant ballroom. Arthur lunged forward, his face twisted in a mixture of rage and panic.

"Get your filthy hands off my daughter!" Arthur roared, grabbing Thomas by the shoulder. "Guards, throw this lunatic into the street!"

But as the guards reached for him, Clara suddenly gasped. For the first time in five years, she felt a strange, electric warmth coursing through her lower back. Her fingers, resting on the armrests of her wheelchair, began to tremble.

"Wait!" Clara cried out, her voice shaking but clear. "Father, stop! Don't touch him!"

As Thomas spoke, Clara looked at him closely. Beneath the grease and the worn clothes, she recognized the strong, kind features of the young resident surgeon who had fought to save her life in the emergency room five years ago—the very doctor her father had mysteriously fired and ruined shortly after the crash.

Whispers broke out among the wealthy guests. Arthur’s face drained of color. He tried to pull Clara’s chair back, but Thomas stood up, placing himself firmly between Arthur and the girl.

"You spent five years keeping her in this chair, Arthur," Thomas said, his voice echoing in the quiet hall. "You paid the specialists to keep her heavily medicated. You told her she would never walk again, all to control her life."

The crowd erupted into shocked murmurs. Arthur’s hands shook as he shouted,

"That is a lie! She was paralyzed in the crash!"

"The crash you caused while driving drunk, which you blamed on a mechanical failure," Thomas revealed. "And you ruined my career when I discovered her spine was fully intact and capable of healing."
