Previously: When a tattered young stranger miraculously heals a wealthy businessman's paralysis in a luxury restaurant, the miracle quickly turns into a high-stakes confrontation that reveals a deep family secret.

The Price of a Miracle

A collective gasp echoed across the rooftop. Guests stood up from their tables, their phones recording in absolute shock as Edward stood tall, his legs supporting his weight without a single tremor. He stared down at his hands, then at his feet, tears of disbelief welling in his eyes. The miracle was undeniable. He was whole again. He looked down at the tattered young man, ready to offer him millions, but the warmth in the stranger’s eyes had completely vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glare.

The young man slowly stood up to face Edward. From beneath his dirty shirt, he pulled a tarnished silver locket. Edward’s heart seized. It was Clara’s locket, the one she had worn every single day until the night of the crash.

"My name is Jesse,"
the young man whispered, his voice dripping with venom.
"And this wasn't a random act of mercy."

Edward stumbled back, his newly healed legs suddenly feeling weak under the weight of a sudden terror.

"Where did you get that?"
he demanded, his voice shaking.
"Clara died in the fire. Everything was lost."

"Not everything,"
Jesse replied, stepping closer so only Edward could hear, though the surrounding cameras captured every tense movement.
"You told the world the crash was a tragedy. But you and I both know the truth, Edward. You didn't try to pull her out. You grabbed your briefcase of corporate bonds and left her to burn because you couldn't risk your empire going bankrupt."

Edward’s face drained of color. The dark secret he had buried deep within his soul for ten years was being dragged into the light. Jesse was Clara's secret son from her youth, whom Edward had paid a small fortune to keep hidden in an orphanage to protect his high-society reputation. Jesse looked at him with burning hatred.

"I inherited my mother's family gift—the power to heal. I gave you your legs back so you could stand like a man when the world finally learns the truth about what you did."
