The sterile, white corridor of St. Jude’s Hospital smelled of antiseptic and artificial lemons, a clinical hum that was suddenly shattered by a piercing scream. Clara, six months pregnant and glowing just moments prior in her simple white maternity dress, was now cowering on the cold linoleum floor. Her hands clutched her baby bump protectively as tears streamed down her pale face. Above her stood Vanessa, her dark hair disheveled, her bright yellow dress a jarring contrast to the sterile environment. Vanessa’s eyes flared with a terrifying, unhinged rage.

"You deserve this!" Vanessa shrieked, kicking wildly toward Clara's trembling frame. "You took everything from me!"
"No, please! Think of the baby!" Clara sobbed, pressing her back against the hard hospital wall, trying to shrink away from the assault.

A nurse in grey scrubs stood frozen in absolute shock near the reception desk, her hands hovering over her phone, unable to process the sudden violence. But before Vanessa could land another devastating blow, Julian rushed down the hallway. His brown tweed blazer flew open as he sprinted, his face pale with horror.

"Stop, what are you doing? Get back!" Julian roared, his firm voice echoing off the walls.

With brute strength fueled by pure adrenaline, Julian grabbed Vanessa by her shoulders, pulling her away from his crying wife. Vanessa struggled against his grip, spitting curses, but Julian threw her back, creating a protective barrier between them. Without looking back at Vanessa, he dropped to his knees, his knees slamming hard against the tile floor. He wrapped his arms around Clara, pulling her shaking body against his chest.

"I've got you, sweetheart. You're safe," Julian whispered, his own voice cracking with emotion as he held his sobbing wife tightly.

The corridor fell into a tense, heavy silence, broken only by Clara's ragged gasps and Vanessa's heavy breathing from a few feet away. But the danger was far from over.
