Previously: When eight-year-old Zoe interrupted her sister's wedding clutching a vintage camera, the groom panicked. The audio recording she played exposed a devastating truth that changed Charlotte's life forever.

The Mask Slips Away

The silence in the chapel was suffocating. James lunged forward, his hands reaching desperately to snatch the vintage camera from Charlotte's grasp. "That's a fake! A deepfake! Charlotte, you have to believe me!" he yelled, his voice cracking with desperation. But Charlotte’s brother, Marcus, stepped between them, his imposing frame blocking James from going any further.

"Touch her, and you’ll answer to me," Marcus warned, his voice low and dangerous.

Charlotte stared at the camera in her hands. The vintage device had belonged to her late grandfather, an avid audio engineer who had modified the camera to record high-quality ambient sound. Zoe had been playing with it in the bridal suite earlier, leaving it running near the groom's lounge. Charlotte pressed the play button again, desperate to hear the rest of the devastating truth.

James’s recorded voice echoed through the chapel speakers once more, clearer this time. "She’s clueless, Vanessa. She actually thinks I love her. Once the marriage certificate is filed, I’ll have full access to her inheritance trust. We’ll drain the accounts and leave for Europe before she even realizes what happened."

A collective gasp rippled through the pews. Charlotte’s gaze slowly shifted from the camera to the front row, where her bridesmaid and supposedly best friend, Vanessa, stood. Vanessa’s face had gone completely pale, her bouquet trembling in her hands. The betrayal was two-fold, cutting deeper than any physical blade ever could.

"Is this true?" Charlotte whispered, her voice shaking as she looked at the two people she trusted most.

James tried to offer a pathetic smile, stepping around Marcus. "Charlotte, baby, it was a joke. A stupid joke with Vanessa. Please, we’ve put so much into this wedding." But the sheer terror in his eyes betrayed his words. He was caught, and he knew it.
