The Interrupted Vows

The sun filtered through the stained-glass windows of the cozy, flower-decked chapel, casting warm hues of amber and violet over the gathered guests. Emily stood at the altar, her heart fluttering with a mixture of joy and nervous anticipation. She looked into Michael’s eyes, believing she was looking at her future. But just as the minister cleared his throat to begin the vows, the heavy oak doors at the back of the chapel banged open.

A collective gasp rippled through the pews. Natalie, Emily’s eight-year-old niece, was running down the aisle. Her face was pale, her eyes wide with terror, and she was clutching a vintage brass-trimmed camera tightly to her chest. Michael’s expression instantly darkened from loving groom to a mask of pure fury.

"Get her out of here! Now!" Michael screamed, his voice echoing harshly against the chapel’s high rafters.

Emily flinched, shocked by the sudden venom in his voice. "Michael, wait, she’s just a child," she pleaded, tears welling in her eyes. Natalie didn't stop until she reached the altar, diving behind the thick satin folds of Emily’s wedding dress for protection.

Michael took a menacing step forward, his fists clenched. "She’s ruining our day! Get her out!" he angrily snapped. When Emily looked at him with growing suspicion, he scoffed defensively. "So what? She's lying. Whatever she says, she's just a lying kid!"

Natalie peeked out from behind the white fabric, looking up at Emily with tear-filled eyes. "The camera heard you," the little girl whispered, her voice trembling but resolute. "He said he used you, Auntie Emily."

Before Michael could grab her, Natalie pressed a button on the vintage camera. A sharp, static-filled audio recording began to play. A familiar male voice echoed through the silent chapel: "After the wedding, I'll take..." Michael watched in sheer panic as the voice cut through the air.
