Paige’s family wasn't wealthy at all; they were drowning in millions of dollars of debt, living in a rented mansion they hadn't paid for in six months, and running a massive financial scam to maintain their high-society reputation.

Mia pulled out her phone and tapped the screen, displaying a public legal notice of foreclosure and fraud charges filed against Paige's family. She held it out for the surrounding students to see.
