How My Mother Saved My Newborn Twins After My Husband Betrayed Us
Previously: Waking up in a hospital bed with broken legs, Rachel learns her husband has fled with their savings. But when he returns to claim her newborn twins, her mother steps in.
A Mother's Ultimate Shield
Just as Diane finished speaking, the heavy hospital door swung open. Mark walked in, flanked by Rachel's estranged sister, Sarah, and a stern-looking man in an expensive gray suit. Sarah wouldn't meet Rachel's eyes, but Mark wore a cold, confident smirk. The lawyer immediately stepped forward, holding out a stack of custody papers.
"Rachel, given your severe physical limitations and the psychological trauma of the accident, we believe it is in the best interest of the children that they be placed in the temporary custody of their father and his partner," the lawyer stated smoothly.

Rachel felt the panic rising again, but she looked at her mother. Diane stood tall, her dark coat draped over her shoulders like armor. She stepped between the lawyer and Rachel’s bed, a cold smile playing on her lips.
"You are too late, Mark," Diane said calmly. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small recording device, pressing play. Mark’s voice filled the room, clearly discussing the brake sabotage and his plan to take the babies with Sarah. Diane had hidden a baby monitor in Mark’s car weeks ago after noticing his suspicious behavior.
Mark’s face drained of color. Sarah took a step back, her hands shaking. Before the lawyer could speak, Diane opened the door to the adjoining bathroom. Two police officers stepped out, cuffs ready. "You underestimated a mother's love, and you certainly underestimated mine," Diane whispered as the officers arrested Mark and Sarah for attempted murder and grand theft.
As the room cleared, Rachel looked at her mother, her eyes filled with immense gratitude. Despite her broken legs, she felt stronger than ever. Diane walked over, gently kissing Rachel’s forehead, and then picked up one of the sleeping twins. True family is not defined by those who share your blood, but by those who are willing to fight for your soul when you are at your weakest.
