As Officer Miller handcuffed a screaming Thomas, Martha's daughter, Sarah, pulled into the driveway, her face pale with shock. She rushed to her mother's side, wrapping her arms around the weeping woman. Martha was still shaking, her knuckles white as she refused to let go of the old leather journal. Officer Miller kept Thomas secured in the back of the patrol car, where the businessman continued to curse and kick at the partition, desperately trying to draw attention away from the book in Martha's hands.

Inside the living room, once Martha had calmed down enough to speak, she finally handed the journal to Sarah. "He wanted to destroy it," Martha whispered, her voice barely audible. Sarah opened the book, expecting to find the rambling thoughts of an elderly woman, but instead, she found a meticulously kept record of financial transactions, complete with bank statements and forged signatures.

"Oh my God," Sarah gasped, her hands trembling. "Thomas... he took everything?"

The journal detailed how Thomas, using his position as a financial advisor, had systematically drained Martha’s life savings and retirement funds to cover his own massive corporate debts. When Martha had confronted him earlier that morning, showing him the proof she had gathered, Thomas had snapped. He realized that if she went to the police, his career, his reputation, and his freedom would be gone forever. To save himself, he devised a cruel plan to paint Martha as mentally unstable, claiming she was delusional and practicing "witchcraft" in a desperate bid to have her declared incompetent. The violent driveway assault was his final, desperate attempt to snatch the incriminating journal and silence her permanently.
