The realization that his own mother had robbed him of his firstborn son for a decade was a blow from which their relationship would never recover.

"Get out," David whispered, his voice trembling with a quiet, terrifying rage.

Eleanor gasped, stepping back. "David, I did it for your own good! She was nothing but a—"

"I said, get out of my house, Mother.
