Tyler stared at his mother, his chest heaving with anger. "Is this true?" he demanded, his voice shaking. "Mother, tell me you didn't do this."

Judith didn't even blink. She set her teacup down with a soft click. "Don't be dramatic, Tyler. I am simply teaching your wife the standards of this household. She comes from nothing, and she expects to live like a queen here without putting in any effort. A little hard work never hurt anyone."

"She is pregnant with my child!" Tyler roared, stepping between his mother and his trembling wife. He gently helped Melissa to her feet, wrapping a protective arm around her waist. "How could you be so heartless?"

Melissa leaned against Tyler, her voice cracked with exhaustion. "It's not just the cleaning, Tyler. While you were gone, she told me that if I didn't sign the postnuptial agreement she drafted, she would cut you off from the family estate. She said I was a parasite."

Tyler froze. The family estate was controlled by a trust that Judith managed, but Tyler had never cared about the money. He had worked hard to build his own career. He looked at his mother, realizing for the first time the depth of her manipulation.

"I did what was necessary to protect our family legacy," Judith said defensively. "She married you for your status, Tyler. Can't you see that?"
