He Caught His Wife Forcing His Elderly Mother to Scrub Floors While Carrying Twins
The Cruelty on the Stairs
The afternoon sun streamed through the massive arched windows of the grand entryway, casting long, warm shadows across the polished mahogany staircase. To any outsider, the estate was a picture of modern luxury. But inside, a quiet, heartbreaking tragedy was unfolding. Standing halfway up the stairs was thirty-two-year-old Victoria. Dressed in a pristine beige button-down shirt and tailored black slacks, her arms were crossed tightly over her chest. Her auburn hair caught the sunlight, but her eyes were cold, fixed on the elderly woman laboring below her.
At seventy-two, Martha’s joints ached constantly. Yet, there she was, dressed in a simple light blue cotton dress, her silver hair pulled back loosely. Strapped to her fragile back in a heavy double carrier were Julian’s newborn twin babies. The weight was immense, but the heavy wooden bucket of soapy water beside her was even harder to manage. With a worn sponge in her trembling hand, Martha scrubbed the mahogany steps, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
Suddenly, the heavy front doors swung open. Julian, forty years old and sharp in his slate grey business suit, stepped into the foyer. He had returned home three days early from his business trip to surprise his family. But the scene before him froze the blood in his veins. His heart shattered as he saw his elderly mother, carrying his infant children, on her knees performing hard labor while his wife stood idly by.
"Let me take this,"
Julian choked out, rushing forward and bending down to grab the heavy bucket from Martha's hands.
"No, no, Julian, it's fine. Really, I can do it,"
Martha protested weakly, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and pride.
Before Julian could pull his mother to her feet, Victoria’s icy voice cut through the air from the top of the stairs.
"It's her job,"
Victoria said flatly, not moving an inch.
Julian stood up, his face flushing red with a mixture of disbelief and pure rage. He pointed a trembling finger at the woman he had promised to love and cherish.
"You stand there watching her? You absolute waste of space! I can't believe you!"
he roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. Martha covered her face in distress, weeping quietly as Julian glared up at his wife with utter contempt.
