Previously: When Matthew returned early from his business trip, he expected a happy reunion. Instead, he found his pregnant wife on the floor in tears, and his mother holding a dark secret.

A Justice Long Overdue

Matthew slowly tore the legal document in half, then in quarters, letting the pieces flutter to the floor onto the dirty soapy water. Beatrice gasped, her composure finally cracking. "Matthew! That was drafted by the family estate lawyers! You cannot disregard our legacy!" she shrieked, her face twisting in anger.

Matthew took a deep breath, looking at his mother with utter pity.

"Our legacy? Mother, it's time you face reality. There is no family estate anymore. Father left you entirely in debt. This luxury house, your designer clothes, your expensive tea—it's all paid for by my company. And do you know who gave me the seed money to start that company?"

Beatrice blinked, suddenly looking very small and fragile. Matthew turned to Hannah, taking her hand and kissing it gently. "It was Hannah. Her family didn't 'come from nothing.' They lived modestly, but her grandfather left her a substantial trust fund. She gave me every single penny of it to build my business, without ever asking for a single thing in return. This house is registered in her name."

The silence in the kitchen was deafening. Beatrice's face drained of color as she stared at the daughter-in-law she had spent weeks tormenting. She had assumed Hannah was a gold-digger, never realizing that she herself was living on Hannah's generosity.

"Pack your bags, Mother,"

Matthew said, his voice quiet but absolute. "You are leaving this house today. I will have my assistant arrange a small, basic apartment for you, but your lavish allowance is cut off. If you ever speak a cruel word to my wife again, you will be completely out of our lives."

Beatrice opened her mouth to argue, but looking at her son's resolute eyes, she realized she had lost everything. She silently grabbed her purse and walked out the door, defeated by her own arrogance. Matthew knelt before Hannah, promising to spend the rest of his life protecting their family. True wealth is never measured by status or pride, but by the love, loyalty, and respect we show to those who stand by us.
