The Corridors of Betrayal

The sterile, fluorescent lights of the hospital wing hummed with a cold, uncaring energy. Dr. Megan, an ash-blonde trauma surgeon, lay sprawled on the hard linoleum floor, her blue surgical scrubs stained with sweat and dust. Scattered all around her were highly confidential medical documents, sheets of paper fluttering like dying leaves under the harsh air vents. Above her stood Edward, her husband of seven years, looking immaculate yet monstrous in his tailored charcoal suit. His face, usually so calm and calculated, was now twisted in a mask of pure, unbridled rage.

"You should have kept your nose out of my files, Megan!" Edward snarled, aggressively stomping his heavy dress shoe mere inches from her trembling face.

Megan screamed in sheer terror, pressing her back against the cold wall. She had just uncovered proof that Edward, the hospital's chief financial officer, was embezzling millions and covering up lethal pharmaceutical trials. Now, in this deserted wing of the building, she realized she was completely at his mercy. He bent down to grab her throat, his eyes devoid of any love they had once shared over nearly a decade of marriage.

Suddenly, the double doors at the end of the corridor burst open with a deafening crash. The thunderous sound of heavy combat boots echoed off the walls, accompanied by the ferocious, echoing barks of a massive German Shepherd. It was Joseph, Megan’s estranged brother, a highly decorated soldier clad in digital military camouflage. Having just returned from a grueling overseas deployment, he had come to surprise his sister at work, only to find her in mortal danger.

With unmatched speed and fury, Joseph charged down the hallway. Before Edward could even turn to face the threat, Joseph threw a fierce, bone-shattering punch that connected squarely with Edward's jaw. Without missing a beat, the soldier launched himself into the air, executing a powerful flying kick. The impact sent Edward crashing backward, skidding across the slippery linoleum floor as the German Shepherd stood guard, snarling protectively.
