Previously: Rachel thought marrying into a wealthy family would bring peace. Instead, her mother-in-law turned her pregnancy into a living nightmare the moment her husband left town.

The Mask Slips

Andrew stood between his pregnant wife and his mother, his chest heaving with a mixture of disbelief and fury. He had always known his mother was demanding, but treating his pregnant wife like a servant was a line he never imagined she would cross. He knelt down, gently lifting Rachel from the wet floor and wiping a tear from her cheek.

"Go upstairs and rest, Rachel. Let me handle this,"

Andrew whispered, his voice trembling with restrained anger. Rachel nodded slowly, holding her stomach as she hurried up the grand staircase, leaving the mother and son alone in the massive living room.

Andrew turned to Victoria, his eyes burning. "How could you do this, Mother? She is carrying your grandchild! Have you completely lost your mind?"

Victoria slowly placed her teacup back on the porcelain saucer, her expression completely unbothered. She smoothed her silk skirt and stood up, looking at her son with a patronizing smile.

"I am teaching her what it means to be a Sterling, Andrew. She comes from nothing, and she expects to inherit everything. If she cannot handle a little housework, she doesn't deserve to bear our family name. Don't forget who built this empire. If you side with her, I can cut you off from the family trust before the sun sets."

She expected Andrew to back down, just as his father always had. Victoria's wealth was absolute, and she used it as a weapon to control everyone in her orbit. But she had underestimated her son's love for his wife.

Andrew let out a bitter laugh. "You think this money is what keeps me here? You think I would trade my wife and my unborn child's safety for your inheritance?" He pulled out his phone and tapped the screen, revealing a live feed from a small camera hidden in the library bookshelf—a security device he had installed months ago for nursery planning. "I saw everything, Mother. Not just today, but every single day I was gone."
